USAID Mission Director, Pakistan’s Economic Affair Minister Discuss Collaboration

ISLAMABAD: United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Mission Director Pakistan, Veeraya Kate Somvongsiri called on Pakistan’s Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema in Islamabad on Tuesday to discuss issues of mutual interest.

The minister welcomed Veeraya Kate and acknowledged the long-standing and strategic partnership between Pakistan and the United States.

He appreciated the support of the US for flood 2022 affectees and underlined the significance of US economic assistance to Pakistan in different sectors like energy, economic growth, education, resilience, health, and Narcotics Control.

He also discussed different aspects of the Development Objective Assistance Agreement, a deal, signed between the two countries after almost 13 years.

The Mission Director thanked Cheema and reaffirmed USA’s unwavering commitment to supporting Pakistan, through development assistance, in mutually agreed priority areas such as inclusive and accountable democratic governance, climate-resilient economic growth, and a healthier, more educated population.

She further apprised him of the implementation progress of the ongoing development portfolio funded by the US government through USAID.

She assured that the US government would always be available to support Pakistan achieve its economic and development objectives.

Minister Appreciates USAID’s Support

Expressing gratitude, Ahad Cheema thanked the government of the US and USAID for extending their continuous support to Pakistan for its socio-economic uplift.

He assured Islamabad’s dedication to closely collaborate with the USAID for the effective implementation and review of ongoing projects, while further strengthening bilateral relations.
