KYIV: Rob Bauer, the Chief of NATO’s Military Committee, has urged for strong support to Ukraine during his visit to Kyiv on Thursday. Addressing concerns over Ukraine’s capacity to repel Russian forces, Bauer emphasized the urgent need for substantial aid packages to be urgently delivered to the embattled nation.
This marked the first official visit to Kyiv by a NATO military delegation since February 2022, coinciding with Russia’s large-scale invasion of Ukraine. Amidst the ongoing conflict, Ukrainian forces are grappling with shortages of ammunition and manpower, particularly in the eastern regions where Russian troops are making incremental advances.
NATO Calls for Urgent Support for Ukraine
Speaking at the Kyiv Security Forum, Bauer underscored the critical importance of immediate support for Ukraine, emphasizing that every moment counts in a conflict where lives are at stake. He praised Ukraine’s resilience and adaptability in the face of adversity, highlighting the nation’s transformative role in shaping modern warfare tactics.
During his visit, Bauer held discussions with Ukraine’s Army Chief, Oleksandr Syrskyi, focusing on the current combat situation. Syrskyi later confirmed on Facebook that topics including ammunition supplies and air defenses were addressed during their meeting.
Additionally, Bauer engaged in talks with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba, exploring avenues for combat training for Ukrainian servicemen and enhancing cooperation in defense industries.
Bauer cautioned against succumbing to undue doubt, expressing confidence in Ukraine’s resilience and determination to prevail on the battlefield. He urged against repeating the mistake of unwarranted optimism observed in previous years, emphasizing the need for sustained support and solidarity with Ukraine.
