ASTANA: Nauryz is an official holiday celebrated within three days in Kazakhstan. This year the Kazakh Ministry of Culture and Information executed a new format of the Nauryz celebration known as the Nauryznama decade. Tulips became the main symbol of Nauryz in 2024. The logo, which was passed by the ministry, was sent to all areas nationwide.
The festivities started on March 14 with the greetings day and will end with cleansing day on March 23. The word “Nauryznama” was mentioned by famous philosophers and writers in their works, especially by Mahmud al-Kashgari, Abai Kunanbaiuly, Mashkhur Zhusup Kopeiuly, and Mukhtar Auezov. Historically, the celebrations lasted up to 9 days.
Nauryz Celebrations
Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev had said it is significant to remember that Kazakhstan has its own New Year – Nauryz.” The President emphasized that the holiday must be celebrated in a new style.
The age-old Eastern celebration, also known as Novruz, Nowruz and Navruz in other countries and regions, marks the arrival of spring and the commencement of a new year as per the solar calendar.
President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev that it has become customary that they reflect on certain outcomes and also make plans for the future during these days. He said that they will enhance the importance of the Nauryz holiday and enrich its content. He also emphasized the crucial assignment of strengthening national identity by encouraging national clothes.
In Kazakhstan, it is a tradition to organize activities, dress up in traditional clothing, and play folk games during the Nauryz. The Kazakh government, academia and business circles come up with their own ideas aimed to promote and encourage cultural heritage. Similarly, the Kazakh capital had curated a diverse array of events and activities for Nauryz, arranged with a contemporary perspective.
