ISLAMABAD: Pakistan strongly condemned India’s recent decision to label the Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Freedom League, along with four factions of the Jammu and Kashmir Peoples League, as “unlawful associations.”
Moreover, Pakistan also criticized the extension of the ban on the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (Mohd Yasin Malik faction) for another five years, as announced by Indian authorities.
The Foreign Office Spokesperson in a press statement said that India’s actions in the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) violate international human rights and humanitarian laws, as well as democratic principles.
The spokesperson urged the Indian government to lift the restrictions imposed on the banned Kashmiri parties, release all political prisoners including Yasin Malik, and adhere to the UN Security Council resolutions concerning Jammu and Kashmir.
14 Kashmiri Political Parties Banned in IIOJK
The latest ban has taken the total number of outlawed Kashmiri political parties in IIOJK to 14, with affiliates of these parties also facing persecution.
It is pertinent to mention here that a death penalty has been sought for Yasin Malik, who had previously been sentenced to life in prison in 2022.
Despite these oppressive measures, Pakistan emphasized that such tactics cannot suppress the aspirations of the Kashmiri people for self-determination, a right enshrined in the relevant UN Security Council Resolutions.
