ZURICH: Beijing will consider taking part in a peace conference aimed at ending the conflict in Ukraine which Switzerland plans to host in the next months, the country’s envoy to Bern said. According to Reuters, Wang Shihting, China’s envoy to Switzerland, said in an interview that all sides should work to end the conflict, which started over two years ago.
He said that the crisis should be prevented from getting even worse, or getting out of control. The ambassador added that they were closely following the conference that Switzerland is going to host, and are also examining the possibility of participating.
The Swiss government said it aims to organize the peace conference by this summer following the idea was floated in January.
Moscow, which attacked Ukraine in February 2022, then described the peace conference plan futile and showed it was doomed to fail without Russia’s participation.
Last month, President of Switzerland Viola Amherd stated it was doubtful that Moscow would take part conference. In the interview, Wang Shihting stressed Beijing had put forward a strategy for a political end to the crisis.
