VATICAN CITY: Pope Francis has called for an immediate end to the ongoing conflict between Israel and the Palestinian resistance group Hamas in Gaza. The pontiff, who has been recovering from bronchitis, expressed his distress over the suffering endured by the Palestinian population due to the relentless Israeli bombardment.
During the Angelus prayer in Rome, Pope Francis emphasized the tragic consequences of the conflict, particularly on children. He also appealed for the release of all hostages taken in the Palestinian resistance group’s raid on October 7. With a clear voice and heartfelt conviction, the Pope implored both sides to halt the violence, questioning the efficacy of continued warfare in achieving lasting peace.
Pope Francis Says “Enough Please, Stop”
“Each day I carry in my heart with pain the suffering of the populations in Palestine and Israel due to the ongoing hostilities, thousands of dead, injured, displaced,” Francis lamented to believers gathered in St Peter’s Square.
Expressing frustration and urgency, he urged, “Enough please! Let us all say enough please! Stop!”
The Pope’s plea comes amidst concerns over his health, as he has faced several health issues in recent months. Despite battling bronchitis and influenza, Francis has continued to advocate for peace and justice on the global stage.
