CAIRO: Yemen’s Houthi Ministry of Transportation announced on Saturday that an undersea communication cable in the Red Sea had suffered a “glitch” as a result of the actions of US and British naval vessels.
The ministry said in a statement carried by the Houthi-controlled Sabah news agency, without elaborating, that the action jeopardized the security of international communications and the flow of information.
The statement said any failure of these cables as a result of the militarization of the Red Sea by American and British naval vessels will be a serious threat to information security and economic and social stability for all countries in the world.
The Houthis, who control Yemen’s most populous region, have fired drones and rockets at commercial ships since November 19 in protest of Israel’s military operation in Gaza.
