SRINAGAR: Members of the civil society in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) have asked the Indian government to proactively pursue measures for the peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute.

According to local media, key figures such as Dr. Zubair Ahmed, Muhammad Furhan, Muhammad Iqbal Shaheen, and Syed Haider Hussain, in a joint statement in Srinagar said that Articles 370 and 35-A must be restored in their original form. They highlighted the urgency of ending atrocities and promptly resolving the Kashmir conflict as per the UN’s resolutions.

Drawing attention to the escalating tensions and evolving complexities of the Kashmir issue, these members of civil society called upon the Indian government to transcend political blockades and demonstrate statesmanship. The statement emphasised the potential for India and Pakistan to de-escalate tensions and foster goodwill through political and diplomatic engagement at appropriate levels. The representatives of civil society hoped that their plea would be acknowledged not merely as advice but as a reflection of the aspirations of the voiceless in Kashmir.

Their plea for peace and a resolution to the Kashmir dispute resonates not only with the people of Kashmir but also with billions across the South Asian region. It underscores the crucial imperative for dialogue, cooperation, and a sincere commitment to addressing longstanding grievances in the pursuit of enduring peace and stability.  —APP
