KABUL: The Foreign Ministry of Afghanistan has said that the ambassador of Azerbaijan gave a document to acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi expressing Baku’s willingness to open an embassy in Kabul.
The ministry in a statement said that Amir Khan Muttaqi welcoming the decision said opening the embassy and sending an ambassador by Azerbaijan is a major development in building ties between Kabul and Baku.
Spokesman of the Taliban government said that Azerbaijan is an important regional state and intents to begin its diplomatic ties with Afghanistan. He said that embassies of both the countries should be operative.
The foreign ministry of Azerbaijan has not yet commented on the opening of embassy or sending an envoy to Kabul.
Afghan foreign ministry is a statement said that Ilham Mohammadov, the Azerbaijani diplomat, in his meeting with Amir Khan Muttaqi shown interest in strengthening ties between the two countries.
Amnullah Hotaki, a political analyst said opening of missions in Kabul is a big achievement and this will particularly benefit those Afghans who are doing business with other countries.
Earlier, the Deputy Prime Minister for Political Affairs, Mawlawi Abdul Kabir said that 17 embassies of Taliban government are currently operating in different states, but no country has recognized the caretaker government in Afghanistan.
