TOKYO: Japan’s Prime Minister Fumio Kishida is contemplating visiting South Korea on March 20, a local TV reported on Wednesday. He will meet South Korea’s President Yoon Suk Yeol and discuss matters including North Korea ahead of the South Korean legislative polls in April, the TV reported, citing officials’ sources.
PM Kishida last visited South Korea in 2023 as part of the two East Asian neighbours’ “shuttle diplomacy”, or regular trips between the leaders in the wake of improved bilateral ties.
Meanwhile, North Korea has fired multiple cruise missiles off its east coast on Wednesday, South Korea’s army said in a statement. The missiles were launched around 9 a.m. Wednesday off the eastern coastal city of Wonsan, the South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff said.
The statement added that while strengthening surveillance and vigilance, their military is cooperating with the US and also closely monitoring more signs and activities from North Korea.
