Uzbekistan Offers Help to Kyrgyzstan After Accident at Bishkek Plant

BISHKEK: Uzbekistan is ready to provide all necessary help to Kyrgyzstan in response to the accident that took place at the Bishkek thermal power plant (TPP), Uzbekistan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Bakhtiyor Saidov said on Saturday.

The Minister expressed these remarks during a phone call with Foreign Minister of Kyrgyzstan, Jeenbek Kulubaev. The Kyrgyz Ministry of Foreign Affairs said that, at the direction of Uzbekistan’s President, the Uzbek side is ready to offer the required help and assistance to Kyrgyzstan about the incident at thermal power plant in Bishkek.

Specifically, as part of the help, the Uzbekistan mentioned the dispatch of liquefied gas cylinders from Uzbekistan’s Andijan to Kyrgyz Osh, local media reported. In reply, Kulubaev also expressed sincere gratitude for the readiness to provide fraternal humanitarian help.

On February 2, at around 03:00 AM, an explosion took place at the Bishkek power plant. Five workers were injured in the mishap while the supply of heating to residential homes and businesses in the city of Bishkek was also suspended.
