TEHRAN: Iran on Wednesday warned the United States against using threatening language and urged a focus on political solutions after Washington declared it had chosen a response to the recent attack that killed three American troops in Jordan.
Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian emphasized that Iran’s response to threats would be decisive and immediate, urging the US to abandon a confrontational approach.
The drone strike on Sunday marked the first instance of US military losses to hostile fire in the region since the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas war on October 7. President Joe Biden attributed the attack to militant groups and stated that he had determined a response. Despite asserting that he did not seek a broader war in the Middle East, the White House warned of potential “multiple actions” in retaliation for the attack without specifying further details.
Iran Warns US Threats Will Not Go Unanswered
General Hossein Salami, the head of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, reinforced Iran’s stance, declaring that threats by American officials “will not go unanswered.” While expressing a reluctance for war, Salami asserted that Iran was not afraid of war.
Iran has consistently denied any involvement in the attack on US troops and stated that it does not seek an escalation of conflict in the Middle East. Amid escalating regional tensions since the Israel-Hamas war, groups in Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, and Yemen have become entangled.
Iran has maintained its position of supporting “resistance groups” in the region, asserting that they operate independently in their decisions and actions.
