RIYADH: The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has advanced 25 places on the World Bank’s recent Statistical Performance Index (SPI) report, said Saudi Press Agency (SPA) on Tuesday.

The Kingdom, represented by the General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT), ranked first in the Gulf region and advanced four places among countries of the G20 to secure 15th spot, compared to 19th in 2019.

The World Bank recently unveiled the results of the assessment, evaluating the maturity and performance of statistical systems in 186 countries. The assessment covers five main dimensions, encompassing over 52 indices related to data sources, statistical products and services, and infrastructure.

The Kingdom achieved a perfect score of 100% in the data use dimension and attained an overall score of 80.8%, showcasing a substantial increase from the 2019 score of 63.4%. This remarkable progress, with a rate of 17.4%, is the highest among the G20 countries.

Dr. Fahad Aldossari, President of GASTAT, attributed the achievement to the support received from the wise leadership, contributing to strategic transformations in statistical production and technical infrastructure. He said that this progress has elevated GASTAT’s statistical role globally, with high-quality indices and statistical data recognized by international organizations.

The accomplishment underscores the leadership’s confidence in GASTAT’s national role, providing essential statistical data, constructing national statistical indices supporting sustainable development plans, fostering economic development, and enhancing the quality of life in the Kingdom.
