PARIS: French President Emmanuel Macron has announced that Paris will deliver 40 SCALP long-range cruise missiles as well as hundreds of bombs to Ukraine to help Kyiv to fight war with Russia.

Macron at a news conference told journalists that Europe’s priority must be to not let Russia win the war. French president further said he would make a new visit to the Ukrainian capital in February.

He strongly believed that letting Russia win would mean accepting that international law has no respect.

Macron went on to say that France is working on a new bilateral security agreement with Ukraine that would be announced during his February visit.

The SCALP missile is capable of hitting targets far into the Russian-occupied east part of Ukraine and well behind front lines that have remained relatively fixed for months.

Macron said some forty more SCALP missies would be delivered along with hundreds of bombs.

The first consignment of the weapons was given to Ukraine in the summer, though the number of the missile was never declared.

Analysts believe that the West must increase military support to Ukraine if it wants to prevent Russia from gaining the upper hand in the almost two-year conflict.

Meanwhile, Russian President Vladimir Putin declared on Tuesday that Moscow’s forces currently hold the advantage in the war with Ukraine, cautioning the neighboring state that it faces the risk of an “irreparable” blow if the conflict continues.

Russia initiated its full-scale military campaign against Ukraine in February 2022, leading to a strong response from the West, including unprecedented sanctions against Moscow and significant military and economic assistance provided to Kyiv.
