TEL AVIV: In a protracted conflict that has entered its fourth month, Israel declared the dismantling of Hamas’s military leadership in northern Gaza.

The campaign, triggered by an unprecedented attack launched by Hamas on October 7, has resulted in a significant toll, with civilian casualties and mass displacement in the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip.

Israel’s military forces, having completed operations in northern Gaza, announced a shift in focus to central and southern areas of the territory. Concurrently, concerns are rising about the potential expansion of the conflict into neighboring Lebanon. Israeli forces faced rocket attacks from Lebanon’s Hezbollah group, adding complexity to an already volatile situation.

The conflict has claimed numerous lives and hostages, intensifying the humanitarian crisis in Gaza. The World Health Organization warns of dire shortages in medical facilities, with the majority of Gaza’s hospitals out of operation. The UN humanitarian chief describes Gaza as “uninhabitable,” emphasizing the urgent need for international intervention.

As Israel vows to continue its campaign against Hamas, there are growing calls for de-escalation and diplomatic solutions. Protests in Tel Aviv demanding early elections and government resignations reflect the internal pressure faced by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The situation remains fluid, with concerns over the potential widening of the conflict and the urgent need for humanitarian aid in the affected region.

Israel invasion has killed nearly 23,000 people, most of them women and children, according to the Hamas-run Gaza health ministry.
