CAIRO: Britain’s top diplomat David Cameron has called for a “sustainable truce” in Gaza to allow urgently needed help into the Strip.

Britain’s Foreign Secretary David Cameron has said that they want this crisis to end immediately. He was addressing a news conference alongside Egypt’s Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry in Cairo on Thursday.

They also discussed the recent wave of attacks against shipping in the Red Sea, a key trade route, Arab media reported. Egypt’s foreign minister Shoukry said that nations bordering the Red Sea had a permanent duty and responsibility to secure the route, and that his country continues to cooperate with many of its allies to provide freedom of navigation in the region.

According to Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid that talks between the two sides focused on truce efforts, aid access to Gaza, a halt to Israeli assaults and forced displacement as well as the two-state solution.

Meanwhile, Presidential spokesperson Ahmed Fahmy said that Egypt’s President El-Sisi and Cameron warned against the forced displacement of people of Palestine, and allowing the crisis to spread to other parts of the region.

During the joint press conference, the two foreign ministers said that aid must be permitted into the Gaza Strip to end the humanitarian crisis facing the Strip. Cameron confirmed that London supports the two-state solution to end conflict in the middle east.

The Government’s media office in Gaza said more than 20,000 people mostly women and children have been killed. As per media reports 8,000 children and 6,200 women have been killed by Israeli brutal attacks on Gaza since October 7.
