PERTH, Australia: Aamer Jamal marked an impressive Test debut, securing the sixth-best performance by a Pakistani bowler, claiming six wickets against Australia.
His figures of 6 for 111 stood out as a remarkable feat in Pakistani Test debut history. Prior to Jamal, a list of notable players including Arif Butt, Mohammad Nazir, Shahid Nazir, Mohammad Zahid, Shahid Afridi, Mohammad Sami, Shabbir Ahmed, Yasir Arafat, Wahab Riaz, Tanvir Ahmed, Bilal Asif, Nauman Ali, and Abrar Ahmed also excelled with five-wicket hauls on their Test debuts.
During the game, Mitchell Marsh fell short of a century, halted at 90 runs, as Pakistan’s Khurram Shahzad dislodged his middle stump post-lunch. Marsh’s innings comprised 15 boundaries off 107 balls.
Aamer Jamal’s fiery bowling was a highlight for Pakistan, dismissing Alex Carey (34) and Mitchell Starc (12) to claim figures of 4-108. Australia, starting the day at 346-5, had earlier seen a dominant performance from David Warner, who scored 164 runs.
The scorching conditions tested Pakistan’s bowling initially, but Jamal’s introduction changed the pace of the game. Marsh, in his aggressive style, scored boundaries off debutant Khurram Shahzad and Faheem Ashraf, pushing Australia past the 400-run mark and achieving a rapid 50 off 66 balls.
While Carey strove to cement his Test spot, an excellent delivery from Jamal shattered his stumps, ending a promising 90-run partnership. Even Starc fell prey to Jamal’s pace, edging a quick ball to depart from the crease.
