ISLAMABAD: Caretaker Minister for Commerce and Industries Dr. Gohar Ejaz and United States Trade Representative Ambassador Katherine Tai held a virtual meeting on Tuesday and discussed the progress made after holding the ninth Pak-US Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA) Council meeting earlier in the year.
Ambassador Tai underlined the significance of Pakistan as an important trading partner of the US and acknowledged that the continuous engagement between both nations is always encouraging.
Gohar Ejaz informed Ambassador Tai about the efforts undertaken by Pakistan to improve the business climate.
He suggested considering duty-free access to textile and garments export to the US as Pakistan imports a major chunk of cotton from the country.
Moreover, the minister also suggested that to add value to the bilateral trade. He said that joint ventures in textile and industrial manufacturing should be explored.
US Top Destination for Pakistan’s Exports
He said that the US is the top destination for IT and ITES exports from Pakistan, and both nations can benefit from the potential of IT in Pakistan.
Both sides agreed to work closely on the various bilateral trade and investment issues with the objective of enhancing the economic cooperation between the two countries.
