KARACHI: Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has failed to pay the salary dues of its employees due to the severe financial crisis.
Sources said the PIA employees are still deprived of their August salaries. The national airline is facing several financial crisis due to the freezing of bank accounts by the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR).
The PIA spokesperson said the caretaker federal government has assured the airline of financial assistance. The spokesperson further said that the salaries owed to PIA employees will be disbursed within a week.
In August, the Federal Bureau of Revenue (FBR) took action to freeze PIA’s bank accounts due to the airline’s failure to pay taxes exceeding Rs 8 billion. Specifically, 26 of the national carrier’s bank accounts were affected by this measure.
