LAHORE: As a part of its continuous effort to discover women cricketers at the grassroots level, the Pakistan Cricket Board will hold countrywide women’s cricket trials from August 23 to August 31 in eight cricket academies.
These competitions will offer a superb platform for outstanding female cricketers from various age groups to demonstrate their abilities and advance to the game’s highest levels. The National Selection Committee, led by former Test cricketer Saleem Jaffar, will oversee the trials with former international players Asmavia Iqbal and Marina Iqbal.
Players born on or after September 1, 2004, are eligible for the U19 age group and the emerging and seniors age groups. Trials will be held for all three age groups.
The trials will assist the selectors in hunting talent and choosing squads for the Pakistan U19 and Emerging Teams. Pakistan’s young squad will face the young team from the West Indies at home in October of this year, while Pakistan’s under-19 team will take part in a triangular tournament with Bangladesh and Sri Lanka in Bangladesh in January of 2024.
Tania Mallick, the head of women’s cricket, stated on Tuesday: “We just granted 74 women cricketers the first-ever domestic contracts, setting the tone for a brighter future in women’s cricket. With the nationwide competitions, we are pleased to introduce a fresh group of brilliant people.
Women’s cricket tournaments are coming up quickly, and these trials will help us find outstanding talent that the selectors can consider for the national teams’ squads.
