TEL AVIV: A rocket attack on a football pitch in the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights killed nine people on Saturday, Israeli Channel 13 reported. The strike occurred in the Druze village of Majdal Shams.

Israeli emergency services reported that the rocket critically wounded nine persons. A medic at the scene described severe destruction and a significant fire resulting from the attack. The targeted area was a football ground.

The attack on Majdal Shams followed an Israeli airstrike in southern Lebanon earlier the same day. According to Israeli military sources, the strike targeted a military structure used by Hezbollah, killing four fighters. The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) confirmed that their aircraft struck a building identified as a base.

In response, Hezbollah, the powerful Lebanese group, has claimed responsibility for a series of retaliatory attacks, including Katyusha rocket fire. However, senior Hezbollah media representative Mohammad Afif has denied any involvement in the rocket attack on Majdal Shams.

The exchange of fire between Israel and Hezbollah has intensified since early October. The conflict has led to numerous casualties and heightened tensions in the region.
