COLOMBO: Heart-wrenching pictures of esteemed elephants and cattle eating plastic in Sri Lanka have prompted lawmakers to toughen pollution rules and laws, but unconvinced environmentalists warn past bans were ignored.

After 20 elephant deaths and countless other wild animals perishing because of single-use plastics in the past years, authorities say a law banning many such items is likely to come into force within several weeks. A video by AFP.
