EL PASO, USA: Marissa Teijo, a 71-year-old El Paso native, is making headlines as the oldest contestant in the Miss Texas USA pageant, which is taking place in Houston. The winner of this pageant will represent Texas in the Miss USA competition, ultimately leading to the Miss Universe contest.

The Miss Universe organization has recently lifted age restrictions, now allowing contestants of any age, as well as those who are married, pregnant, or divorced. This inclusivity aims to broaden opportunities for women, despite the recent controversies following the resignations of Miss USA and Miss Teen USA in May. However, these changes have only fueled Teijo’s determination.

Teijo emphasized her belief that it is never too late to pursue one’s dreams. “I feel that all women now have a new stage of opportunity, strength, and beauty,” she stated. Competing against nearly 100 other women, Teijo feels more motivated than ever to achieve her dream.

Raised in El Paso, Teijo is enthusiastic about inspiring her community and breaking age-related barriers. Jackie Garcia-Martinez, CEO of Bazaar Models and Teijo’s representative, is proud to support diverse women. Garcia-Martinez noted that seven other young women from El Paso are also participating in the pageant.

“I represent women of all shapes, ages, and races. As I prepare my team for Miss Texas, I’m thrilled to support these women who inspire me every day,” Garcia-Martinez said.

Teijo’s participation in the Miss Texas USA pageant symbolizes the progress in inclusivity within the Miss Universe organization and serves as a powerful reminder that the pursuit of dreams has no age limit.
