ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has said that at least 641 Afghan Taliban have been killed and more than 855 injured since the launch of Operation Ghazab Lil Haq, a military campaign initiated in response to what Islamabad described as “unprovoked attacks” from across the Afghan border.

The operation began last month following renewed clashes along the Pakistan–Afghanistan frontier, where Afghan Taliban forces opened fire on multiple Pakistani positions, prompting a swift military response from Islamabad.

Since then, clashes between the two neighboring countries have intensified, marking one of the most serious escalations along the border in recent years.

In a statement posted on his official account on X on Wednesday, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar said Pakistani security forces had inflicted significant losses on Taliban infrastructure and combat positions during the operation.

According to the minister, 243 check posts used by Afghan Taliban operatives have been destroyed, while 42 additional posts were captured by Pakistani forces before being demolished.

Tarar also reported that Pakistani forces had destroyed 219 tanks, armored vehicles, and artillery systems belonging to the Afghan Taliban during the course of the campaign.

He added that the operation has included air strikes targeting multiple terrorists’ sites inside Afghanistan, with 65 locations reportedly struck by Pakistani aircraft.

According to state broadcaster- Radio Pakistan – the country’s armed forces continue to conduct retaliatory strikes against Afghan Taliban and terrorits described by officials as Fitna al-Khawarij.

Security sources said Pakistani Army units carried out operations against several Afghan Taliban positions in the Zhob sector, along the western border. The attacks reportedly forced Taliban forces and terrorists to withdraw from their posts, abandoning equipment and weapons during the retreat.

During the operation, Pakistani troops seized Russian-made 73mm HGL-9 heavy grenade launchers from positions previously occupied by Afghan Taliban forces.

In a separate strike, Pakistan Army units also destroyed another Taliban post near the Shawal area of North Waziristan, further intensifying the cross-border confrontation.

The latest round of fighting comes after a series of tit-for-tat military actions over the past year, which have steadily heightened tensions between Islamabad and Kabul.

Earlier, Pakistan conducted air strikes against terrorist camps belonging to Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Islamic State Khorasan Province inside Afghanistan following a surge in terrorist attacks within Pakistan, including a suicide bombing in Islamabad.

Pakistani officials said that more than 80 terrorists were killed in those operations. The strikes were followed by attacks from Afghan territory, triggering the current cycle of border clashes.

Islamabad has long held the Afghan Taliban government of allowing TTP leadership and terrorists to operate from Afghan soil, however, Kabul has repeatedly been failed to stop them.

The tensions between the two countries also disrupted economic ties, as border crossings were closed and bilateral trade temporarily suspended in October 2025.

Security analysts warn that the ongoing conflict could further destabilize the volatile border region if cross-border attacks from Afghanistan continue and diplomatic efforts fail to ease tensions between the two neighboring countries.
