61 Trucks Deliver Aid in Northern Gaza: UN

WASHINGTON: The United Nations (UN) on Saturday said around 61 trucks carrying medical supplies, water, and food had delivered their shipments in northern Gaza, as a pause in the war allows aid to enter the besieged Strip.

Another 200 trucks had also been dispatched to the Strip, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said in a statement, with 187 of these trucks having made it past the border by evening local time.

The statement maintained that the 11 ambulances, 3 coaches and a flatbed were transported to Al-Shifa hospital, which had seen heavy bombardment in recent days to support with evacuations.  It stated that the longer the pause lasts, the more aid and relief humanitarian organizations will be able to send in and across the Gaza Strip,” it added, thanking the Egyptian and Palestinian Red Crescent groups.

The day prior, when a brief truce between Hamas and Israel began to facilitate the captive and prisoner exchange, about 137 trucks had delivered aid and relief in the Strip, the UN said.

The OCHA added that they welcomed the release of more captives and expressed hope that the release of more Palestinian prisoners brings relief to their loved ones and families.

Meanwhile, Israeli prison officials have said a second batch of 39 Palestinian prisoners have been released following 13 Israeli captives and four foreign nationals were set free by Hamas from the Gaza Strip. According to Arab media, crowds are welcoming 39 freed Palestinian detainees in the occupied West Bank following 13 Israeli and four Thai hostages released by Hamas left the Gaza Strip through the Rafah crossing. The development took place as 13 Israeli captives and four foreign citizens have reached Israel after their release.  The transfer on the second day of the ceasefire was delayed for several hours over Hamas’s accusations that Israel was violating the truce agreement.
