GAZA: The UN Palestinian refugee agency UNRWA has said at least six staffers were killed after two attacks hit a school in central Gaza, marking what it said was the highest death toll among its staff in a single incident.

UNRWA School in Gaza

In a statement, UNRWA said on X that among those killed was the manager of the UNRWA shelter and other officials providing help to displaced Palestinians. According to UNRWA this school has been hit around five times since the war started. The school is home to more than 12,000 displaced people, mainly children and women. Local officials in Gaza said the Israeli attack killed around 18 people, including the UNRWA staff members.

Truce Talks

Meanwhile, Hamas said on Wednesday that its negotiators reiterated its willingness to implement an “immediate” truce with Israel in the Gaza Strip based on a previous US suggestion without new conditions from any side.

Hamas said in a statement that their team met mediators on Wednesday including Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani and Egypt’s spy chief Abbas Kamel in Doha to discuss the recent developments in the Gaza Strip.

According to media reports, talks have so far failed to reach an agreement to end the 11-month-old conflict. CIA Director William Burns, who is the chief US negotiator on the Gaza Strip, stated on Saturday that a more detailed truce proposal would be made in the next days.

WHO

These developments take place as the World Health Organization (WHO) evacuated about 97 sick and severely wounded people and 155 health professionals from the Gaza Strip in what its chief says is the largest medical evacuation since Oct. 2023.

Injured and patients were shifted through the Karem Abu Salem (Kerem Shalom) crossing to Ramon airport in Israel for onward travel to UAE for specialized care, WHO Director-General Tedros Ghebreyesus said.
