BEIRUT: Six members of Syrian forces were killed in three separate attacks on government positions in country’s northwest region, AFP reported on Sunday.
The French news agency quoted the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights as saying 6 soldiers of the Syrian forces were killed and two others wounded in three attacks by the militant group and its allies.
The attacks targeted the Syrian army installations in Latakia province. Parts of Idlib province and adjacent areas of Latakia, Hama and Aleppo provinces are under the control of the militant group led by Syria’s former al-Qaida affiliate.
6 Soldiers Killed in Syria
The civil war started in Syria in 2011, during which armed militants from different areas poured into the country and took control of some areas. However, the Syrian government led by President Bashar al-Assad took back much of the territory it had lost to rebels in the conflict.
In 2020, a ceasefire agreement was reached in Syria, brokered by Russia and Turkey to bring peace and stability in the country. During the conflict, more than half a million people have lost their lives and millions were displaced.
