ISTANBUL: People rushed out of their homes and shops late Monday night after a 6.1-magnitude earthquake struck the town of Sindirgi in Balikesir province, according to the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD). The quake hit at 10:48 p.m. local time (1948 GMT) and was felt in Istanbul, Izmir, and Bursa, prompting brief panic among residents.
Authorities said no casualties have been reported, though emergency teams were dispatched to inspect buildings already weakened by previous tremors.
