6.1 Magnitude Earthquake Jolts Xinjiang, No Casualties Reported

URUMQI:  A strong magnitude of 6.1 magnitude jolted Shaya County of Aksu Prefecture in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in northwest China at 7:49 a.m. on Monday.

China Earthquake Networks Center said in a statement that the epicenter was at 40.01 degrees east longitude, with a depth of fifty kilometer.

The earthquake’s epicenter is located in an unpopulated area, 105 kilometer away from Alaer city and property damages have been reported so far, the local authorities said.

So far, fifteen vehicles and seventy rescuers from the fire and rescue department is the area have rushed to the disaster area. A team of ten people from the same department in the county is exploring the epicenter’s area with two vehicles.

Jolts untouched power sector

The oil and gas production, local power grid operation, and key petrochemical enterprises were safe in the jolts.
