22 Injured as 6.1 Magnitude Quake Hits Turkey

Istanbul: At least 22 people were injured after a 6.1 magnitude earthquake hit northwest Turkey on Wednesday.

According to the US Geological Survey, the tremor struck about 170 kilometres east of Istanbul. The depth of the earthquake was 10 kilometres

Earlier, Turkey’s Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu said on Twitter that no on loss of life could be ascertained immediately.

According to the US Geological Survey, Turkey is situated in one of the world’s most active earthquake zones.

In January 2020, a 6.8 magnitude quake hit Elazig that left more than 40 people dead.

In November 2020, a powerful 7.0 magnitude quake struck the Aegean Sea, killing 114 people and wounding more than 1,000. APP/AFP
