ISLAMABAD: A moderate earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale rattled several regions of Pakistan and India on Tuesday afternoon, as reported by the National Seismic Monitoring Centre. The quake, with a depth of 10 kilometers, had its epicenter located in Eastern Kashmir.
The European Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) independently recorded the earthquake at a magnitude of 5.7, stating that its epicenter was situated 99 kilometers north of Pathankot in northern India.
Tremors from the seismic activity were felt in major cities including Peshawar, Islamabad, Lahore, and their surrounding areas. Television footage showed people evacuating buildings as a precautionary measure.
Fortunately, there have been no reports of casualties or significant damages resulting from the earthquake thus far.
Earthquake in India
The tremors also reached the Indian capital of New Delhi, as well as various parts of North India, according to the ANI news agency.
This event follows a series of recent seismic incidents in the region. Last month, two consecutive earthquakes struck parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, resulting in three children sustaining injuries. Similar mild tremors were also felt in New Delhi and its neighboring areas.
In March, a more severe earthquake measuring 6.8 magnitude shook parts of the country, resulting in the deaths of two individuals and injuring six others.
