BOGOTA: An earthquake measuring 5.5 on the Richter Scale has jolted Colombia, Western media reported on Monday.
According to the German Research Center for Geosciences (GFZ) the quake occurred at a depth of 10 km (6.21 miles).
Tremors were felt in Quibdo and other areas of Chocó Department in western Colombia. According to the experts, shallow earthquakes are felt more strongly than deeper ones due to their closeness to the earth’s surface.

However, there have been no preliminary reports of damage or deaths as a result of the earthquake.
On August 18 an earthquake of 6.3 magnitude struck the Colombian capital Bogota. Following the earthquake, the Colombian authorities evacuated the entire municipality of Calvario, in Meta, area of Bogota.
