PESHAWAR: Local officials said on Thursday that Peshawar police have arrested as many as 42 miscreants for torching and damaging public, government properties and installations.
According to official news agency, APP special teams have been constituted to arrest others miscreants involved in looting, ransacking, and destruction of vehicles in Peshawar. A police spokesperson told media that CCTV footage from the different areas including Radio Pakistan, Balahisr Fort, and the provincial assembly had been collected for identification of the miscreants entering government properties, sensitive installations and offices. Special teams of police have also been formed to arrest those accused.
42 Miscreants Arrested in Peshawar
He added raids were also being conducted to arrest the local leaders, MPAs and MNAs from Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) for their involvement in inciting the public to attack government properties. He further said cases against the MNAs and MPAs would also be registered once their involvement in anti-state activities was proven.
The spokesperson further maintained that protestors also damaged government buildings and installations at Motorway Interchange, Kabootar Chowk, Dalazak Road, and General Bus Stand; however, the major losses were suffered to properties at Suray Pull close to the provincial assembly and Radio Pakistan.
In the Hashtnagri area of the city, the spokesperson said the protestors broke the locks of various shops and escaped with looted goods while window panes of some plazas were also stoned and broken on the GT Road. At Bacha Khan Chowk, the signboards of the Directorate of Capital Metropolitan and Mayor’s office were uprooted and taken away by the protestors, the spokesman added.
He said so far 42 protestors involved in damage to government properties had been arrested and teams had been formed to arrest other accused.
