GAZA: Preliminary probes by the Committee to Project Journalists (CPJ) reveal that as many as 42 journalists and media workers have been killed since war in Gaza began on October 7, making the period the most lethal for journalists since the forum’s data collection started in 1992.
As of Monday, “At least 42 media workers and journalists were confirmed dead: 37 Palestinians, 4 Israeli, and one Lebanese. 9 journalists were reported wounded. 3 journalists were reported missing. 13 journalists were reported apprehended”, in a statement CPJ said.
Journalists and media workers covering the conflict have also experienced “multiple attacks, threats, censorship, cyberattacks, killings of relatives and family members”.

42 Journalists Killed in Gaza War: CPJ
“Journalists and media workers across the Middle East are making great sacrifices to cover and report this heart-breaking war,” the CPJ’s Middle East and North Africa programme official Sherif Mansour said.
“Those in Gaza, especially, have paid, and continue to pay, an unparalleled toll and face exponential threats and challenges. Many journalists have lost colleagues, media facilities, families and have also fled seeking safety and security when there is no safe haven,” he further said.
Local officials said that the Palestinian death toll from the current Israeli attack in the Gaza Strip has climbed to more than 11,320 people. The victims including 4,650 children and more than 3,145 women, while around 29,200 people were wounded. Health Ministry in Gaza said that about 198 medics, twenty-two civil defense personnel and fifty-one journalists were killed in the Israeli airstrikes in the Gaza Strip. Similarly, the Israeli aggression has also forced about 25 hospitals and more than 52 health care centers out of service, while 55 ambulances were damaged by Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip.
