BERLIN: Around thirty people were injured, 10 of them seriously, after a float being pulled by a tractor overturned at a May Day parade in southwest Germany, police said.
The accident occurred near the town of Kandern, situated close to the French border between the German city of Freiburg im Breisgau and Basel in Switzerland. Authorities said that the float toppled over as the tractor maneuvered through a turn, resulting in a significant number of casualties.
In a statement issued shortly after the incident, police confirmed that several injured persons required immediate medical attention, prompting the deployment of helicopters for emergency airlifts. Notably, helicopters from neighboring Switzerland were summoned to augment rescue efforts.
The accident unfolded at approximately 1:05 pm local time, casting a somber shadow over the otherwise festive May Day celebrations in the region.
