3 Killed in Lebanon as Israel, Hezbollah Restart Fire

BEIRUT: Israeli bombing killed 3 people in south Lebanon on Friday, Lebanon’s official media reported, as the collapse of a ceasefire between Hamas and Israel prompted a resumption of hostilities at the border.

In a statement, Hezbollah confirmed that two people were killed by Israeli strike in the region. It also added that the group had carried out various assaults on Israeli military positions at the border in support of people of Palestine in the Gaza Strip, where a week-long truce between Hamas and Israel ended early on Friday.

The Israeli military stated its artillery also struck sources of fire from Lebanon side and air defences had intercepted 2 launches. Sirens warning of probable incoming missiles sounded in various towns in northern Israel.

Lebanon’s official media reported that two persons were killed by Israeli shooting in the Lebanese border town of Houla, and one person was killed in Jebbayn area of the country. As per media reports, Israeli bombardment killed a woman and her son in Houla, Shakeeb Koteich. The chief of the town’s municipal council said that both persons were civilians. Similarly, Hezbollah stated than one person was killed in Houla.

After the eruption of the Israel- Hamas war on Oct. 7, Hezbollah also mounted near-daily rocket strikes on Israeli military positions at the border while Israel waged artillery and air strikes in south Lebanon.

An official of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon said that there had been bombardment close to its headquarters near town of Naqoura, and in Aita al-Shaab in south part of Lebanon, in the late afternoon.
