MEXICO CITY: Authorities in the Mexican beach resort of Cancun said Monday they had found 3 dead bodies in the city’s hotel area, which is situated near the beach.
Information regarding the nationalities or identities of the 3 victims was not known immediately. Just a few days ago, an American tourist was shot in the leg in the close by town of Puerto Morelos.
Their bodies were found Monday in a lot close to one of Cancun’s beachside hotels. Prosecutors in the state of Quintana Roo, located on the Caribbean coast, said the deaths were still being probed and did not disclose any information regarding how deaths happened.
Last week in Puerto Morelos, an American tourist was approached by a number of suspects who shot him in the leg. The motive is being investigated.
The injured man was taken to a Cancun hospital for treatment, and his injury was not threatening his life.
US alert urges travelers to be cautious while visiting Mexico’s beach resorts
Earlier this month, the US State Department issued a travel alert and warned travelers to “exercise increased caution.” The alert specifically urged the travelers to be cautious after dark at Mexico’s Caribbean beach resorts.
These destinations include Playa del Carmen, Cancun, and Tulum, all of which have been plagued by drug gang violence in the past.
