22 Pakistani Fishermen Released By India Reach Home

LAHORE: Pakistan High Commission in India said that twenty-two Pakistanis imprisoned in Indian prisons were repatriated via the Attari-Wagah border on Friday, local media quoted.

In a statement via social media, Pakistan High Commission in India has confirmed that twenty-two Pakistanis imprisoned in India were repatriated today through the Attari-Wagah border following hectic efforts of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Pakistan High Commission. It said that efforts would be continued for early repatriation of Pakistani prisoners in Indian prisons on completion of their sentences.

Earlier, in February, Pakistani fishermen freed from Indian jail had also reached home through the Wagah border crossing. The 12 fishermen had been handed over to Pakistan authorities by Indian side at the Wagah border in Lahore. The released fishermen belong to Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and Sindh.

Islamabad and New Delhi swap lists of prisoners in each other’s custody twice a year, on January  1st and  July 1st.
