ISLAMABAD: The death toll from the last Sunday’s boat overturned at Tanda Dam Kohat reached 30 after the rescue and relief teams recovered another 19 bodies of seminary students on Monday. The ill-fated students were drowned in the Tanda Dam, near Kohat in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province.
Soon after the incident on Sunday, the rescue workers pulled 11 bodies out of the water and managed to rescue 17 children alive from the lake.
Funeral prayers of Tanda Dam victims offered
Meanwhile, the funeral prayers of 11 deceased students, whose bodies were recovered from the lake yesterday, were offered in Kohat on Monday.
Officials from the rescue service said that the search operation continued to recover the bodies of the remaining students if any.
Earlier on Sunday, the incident happened when students of a local seminary went to the dam for a refreshment tour.
Police said that the students were between the age of seven to 14 years, while the boat was carrying between 25 and 30 students during the trip.
Meanwhile, officials from the Kohat administration have registered the case of the incident against the boat owner and the irrigation department.
It is unfortunate that despite repeated incidents of Mass drownings in the country, no concrete measure have been taken by the government to avoid such losses
