18th PTDC International Cholistan Desert Rally, Cultural Festival begin from Feb 6

ISLAMABAD: Managing Director Pakistan Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) Aftab-ur-Rehman said on Tuesday that the 18th TDCP international Cholistan desert rally and the cultural festival will be held in Bahawalpur from February 6 to 12.

Congratulating Punjab’s tourism department for doing a great job for the last seventeen years to successfully organize this event in the thrilling desert of Cholistan which is mostly a neglected tourist spot.

Rehman further said that organizing the event generates economic activity in the area where there is no other industry or business activity. He termed the event as a source of economic activity and a space for small jobs to the local papulation.

He said that the upcoming event will be the biggest one against the previous events as invitations have been sent to the international drivers to participate in the rally and make it more excited and thrilling.

Rally for cultural and tourism promotion

Rehman further said that being a fertile piece of land, with five rivers of Punjab in the surroundings, with a diversity of people living in the area, event will provide the motorists an opportunity to experience and explore not just the landscape of the area but also the great living culture of Cholistan and history of southern Punjab.

Highlighting the importance of the event he said the Cholistan desert rally has originated a number of other jeep rallies in Pakistan including those in Balochistan, desert of Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa area and the one in Gilgit-Baltistan, Safranga which is the highest cold desert in the world.

Meanwhile, Managing Director Punjab Tourism Department Mohammad Ali Abbas Agha said that he was optimistic to establishing a working relationship with officials from other countries through which skilled motorists could be invited to participate in the event.
