TULKAREM, Palestinian Territories: The Palestinian Red Crescent Saturday said at least 14 people have been martyred in an Israeli raid on Nur Shams refugee camp in the north of the occupied West Bank.
“So far, our crews have evacuated 14 martyrs from Nur Shams camp to the hospital,” it said.
Meanwhile, Israel has decided to summon ambassadors of countries which voted for full Palestinian UN membership “for a protest talk”.
A foreign ministry spokesman said that the ministry will summon the ambassadors of the countries that voted in favour of upgrading the status of the Palestinians in the UN.
“The foreign ministry will summon for a protest talk the ambassadors of the countries that voted in the Security Council in favour of upgrading the status of the Palestinians in the UN,” spokesman Oren Marmorstein said in a post on X Saturday.
The Israeli army announced that its forces killed 10 militants in an operation that began on Thursday.
As Israeli drones flew overhead and armored vehicles drove through the camp, the media saw bodies blown up in streets and houses.
Since early last year, violence has escalated in the West Bank, which Israel has occupied since 1967. Since the start of the war in Gaza on October 7, violence has increased.
Earlier, the Palestinian Ministry of Health confirmed that 11 people were injured in the Israeli attack, seven of them “wounded by live gunshots”. In some cases, rescuers were shot while trying to rescue the injured.
The ministry said medics had received reports of a large number of casualties in the camp, but the army was denying them access to treat the wounded.
The Israeli army announced that it had killed “10 terrorists” and arrested eight people in the Nur Shams area. The report added that eight soldiers and one police officer were wounded.
The Israeli military says its frequent attacks target Palestinian militants, but the dead are mostly civilians.
According to Palestinian officials, since the beginning of the Gaza war, around 480 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli forces and settlers in the West Bank.
The West Bank, excluding annexed East Jerusalem, is home to some 490,000 Israeli settlers in communities considered illegal under international law.
