BUNDANG: At least 13 people were wounded after a man deliberately hit people with his car and proceeded to stab others near the Seohyeon subway station at a department store in Bundang, South Korea. The attack took place on a Thursday in a city about 20 kilometers southeast of Seoul and came just weeks after a similar fatal assault that resulted in one fatality.
According to reports, the attacker stabbed nine people, while four others were hit by his car before the rampage. After the incident, police arrested the 20-year-old suspect at the crime scene, as confirmed by police officials. Unverified images from the incident depicted a floor stained with blood, and emergency medical personnel responded, including at least one medical helicopter.
Increase in Stabbing Attacks
This is the second stabbing attack in South Korea in recent times, leading to heightened concerns among the public. One person was stabbed to death, and three others were injured in a stabbing attack that was reported in the South Korean capital on July 21 last.
South Korea is widely known as an exceptionally safe country, boasting an impressively low murder rate of only 1.3 per 100,000 people in 2021, according to official statistics. Contrary to it, the United States recorded 7.8 homicide deaths per 100,000 people, as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported.
