SAO Paulo: Local officials said that as many as 11 people have been killed in Brazil after an extra-tropical cyclone struck the region, Western media reported on Sunday.
In a statement, the local authorities said that the storm caused torrential rains and searches are underway in flooded regions to find 20 others who have gone missing.

Rio Grande do Sul’s governor, Eduardo Leite said that the current situation in the region is very disturbing. The governor said, “It is necessary that we can, in an organized way, rapidly map the main affected parts and identify the citizens who need help and assistance,”.
Many people in affected areas have been shifted to outdoor sports facilities in their towns. Local officials have also issued a warning for a risk of landslides in some parts of the region. The governor claimed that they have conducted more than 2,400 rescues in the last two days.
“Our main aim at this first moment is to secure and rescue human lives. We are making efforts to rescue people who are stranded, locating missing persons, and giving all the support to the people,” he added. Fatal flooding in Brazil is common and has caused destruction for decades.
