10 Killed in Mass Shooting in Loss Angeles After Chinese Lunar New Year Celebration

MONTEREY PARK, CALIFORNIA: Police said on Sunday that at least ten persons were killed and ten others wounded in a mass shooting in Loss Angeles after the Chinese Lunar New Year celebration on Saturday.

The incident took place late on Saturday at a ballroom club on Garvey Avenue in Monterey Park, police officials said.

Captain Andrew Meyer, Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department told the media that people were “pouring out of the site screaming” when officials arrived at the area.

In a press conference hours following the shooting, Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna confirmed that ten people including five men and five women were killed at the scene. The officer said that the wounded were in conditions “ranging from stable to critical”.

Chinese Lunar New Year Celebration and Loss Angeles

Robert Luna added the suspect of the attack was still at large and provide a preliminary description of the attacker as an “Asian man” but said detectives had so far received “different descriptions of the suspect” from witnesses and survivors.

The officer said that they don’t know if this is a hate crime defined by the law of the country but who walks into a dance hall and guns down 20 persons?”

Police said that the Chinese Lunar New Year celebration has been canceled after the shooting.

Monterey Park is a city of around over 60,000 people with a large number of Asians, situated about 16km from downtown Los Angeles.

Los Angeles City Controller Kenneth Mejia said that expressed sympathies with the victims and also tweeted about the incident.
