MOGADISHU: At least 10 civilians were killed when Al-Shabaab fighters attacked a house in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu on Tuesday, the government said.

The government said the attack took place around 1200 GMT in the northern district of Abdiasiz. The government added that three civilians had been injured in the attack.

“The security forces rescued and extracted several other civilians from that house and nearby buildings during the attack,” officials said.
The Al-Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attack.

Al-Shabaab fighters control parts of countryside

In recent months, the Somali security forces and local tribal militias have retaken chunks of territory from the militants in operation backed by an African Union force known as ATMIS and US air strikes.

But the Al-Shabaab group still controls parts of the countryside from where they have launched several retaliatory attacks in Somalia and neighbouring countries.
