WASHINGTON: American forces conducted air strikes against five missiles on Sunday, targeting Houthi.

According to the US military’s Central Command (CENTCOM), the strikes were in response to an imminent threat posed by a land attack cruise missile and four anti-ship cruise missiles located in Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen.

The missiles were reportedly prepared to launch against ships in the Red Sea, presenting a potential danger to US Navy vessels and merchant ships in the region.

This action follows a series of joint air raids by US and UK forces against the Houthi, marking the third round of military responses to the rebels’ attacks on shipping. The Houthi had been targeting Red Sea shipping, citing their support for Palestinians in Gaza and claiming to target Israel-linked vessels. In response, the US and UK launched strikes against Houthi positions, prompting them to declare American and British interests as legitimate targets.

The situation in Yemen has been further complicated by regional tensions, with the conflict in Gaza intensifying. The Houthi attacks on shipping are viewed as part of their broader regional strategy, aligning with various groups in Middle Eastern countries.

The complexity of the conflict was underscored by a recent drone attack in Jordan, resulting in casualties among US soldiers. The US responded with strikes on targets in Syria and Iraq.

The ongoing geopolitical dynamics and regional alliances continue to shape the course of the Yemen conflict, with the involvement of external powers contributing to the complexity of the situation. The strikes against missiles in Yemen highlight the persistent threat posed by Houthi and the efforts of international forces to address the evolving security challenges in the region.
