ISLAMABAD: Sajjad Haider Khan on Wednesday officially assumed charge as the new spokesperson of Pakistan’s Foreign Office.
Sajjad Haider Khan was previously serving as Director General of the South Asia and SAARC Division at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
With extensive diplomatic experience, Sajjad Haider has replaced Tahir Andrabi, who is proceeding to Geneva to assume charge as Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations and other international organisations.
He will continue in his existing capacity as DG South Asia, alongside his new responsibilities as Foreign Office spokesman.
The dual assignment comes at a crucial time as Pakistan’s diplomatic engagement with countries in the South Asian region remains high on Islamabad’s foreign policy agenda.
As spokesman, Haider will be responsible for articulating Pakistan’s official foreign policy positions and briefing the media on major regional and international developments.
His appointment assumes added significance amid the country’s evolving diplomatic engagement with India and other regional countries, as well as the country’s wider diplomatic initiatives on Afghanistan, Iran, China, the United States and the Middle East.
Tahir Andrabi, who was serving as Foreign Office spokesman, will now take up his new assignment in Geneva, where he will represent Pakistan at the United Nations and other international forums.
The appointment of Haider marks a significant change in the Foreign Office’s media and diplomatic communication structure at a time when Pakistan is dealing with a rapidly changing regional and international environment
Sajjad Haider Khan hails from Gilgit-Baltistan and has served in diplomatic missions in Damascus, Budapest, Berlin and Jakarta.
He holds a master’s degree in Political Science from the University of the Punjab, Lahore. He served as Pakistan’s Ambassador to Belarus from 2020 to 2025 and speaks Urdu, English, Arabic and Balti, with proficiency in German, Indonesian and Russian.
