LAHORE: The Punjab Healthcare Commission has taken action against 556 unlicensed medical practitioners’ outlets across 33 districts in the province.
In March, PHC enforcement teams conducted raids on 2,747 treatment centers. Among these, 75 now have qualified physicians treating patients instead of the previously marked quacks.
Moreover, PHC has initiated surveillance on 1,745 centers. Lahore saw the highest number of closures, with 49 outlets sealed. Other districts with significant closures include Faisalabad and Rawalpindi with 44 each, Gujranwala and Sargodha with 32 each, Layyah with 27, and Okara and Sahiwal with 25 each.
The Commission’s spokesperson mentioned that PHC has inspected over 187,000 centers, sealing more than 50,000 illegal outlets. Furthermore, 39,684 centers have been repurposed for other businesses.
