AMMAN: Jordan’s King Abdullah on Wednesday received Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas to discuss the maintenance of Arab coordination in support of the Palestinian cause.
The meeting was held at Al-Husseiniya Palace in Amman and also attended by Crown Prince Hussein bin Abdullah.
King Abdullah emphasized his country’s unwavering stance on the Palestine problem and its dedication to protecting the holy sites in Jerusalem, Arab News reported.
He reiterated Amman’s full support for the Palestinians in their struggle for legitimate rights and the establishment of a sovereign state with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on the 1967 borders.
He emphasized the need for international community’s support in protecting the Palestinians and encouraged latest efforts to find a political solution through effective and serious talks based on the two-state solution.
Jordan’s king urges for consultation
The king expressed his serious concerns over the absence of a political horizon and its possible impact on regional security and stability. He urged for an end to all illegal unilateral Israeli activities and stressed the necessity of ongoing consultation and coordination with the Palestinians on issues of mutual interest.
Abbas praised the steadfast position of Jordan under its leadership, as well as its strong support for the Palestinian cause on the world stage.
