PESHAWAR: An earthquake struck Swat and its adjoining areas in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan on late Friday, local media reported. As per media reports the intensity of the quake was 4.6 on the Richter scale.
Citizens came out of their houses in panic and started reciting verses from the Holy Quran. However, no loss of life or property was reported from any part of Swat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa due to the earthquake.
National Seismic Monitoring Centre, Islamabad reported that the epicentre of the quake was near Pakistan, Afghanistan and Tajikistan border region at a depth of 83 km.
Earthquake Shakes Karachi
Earlier on Thursday, a low-intensity quake jolted Karachi. As per the media reports, the magnitude of the earthquake was recorded 2.9 on the Richter scale. The National Seismic Monitoring Centre, Islamabad stated that the epicentre of the earthquake was 10 km west of Malir.
Citizens of Karachi came out of their houses in panic and started reciting verses from the Holy Quran. However, reports said that there are no immediate reports of damages due to the quake in the city.
